Tangerine Tango Quilt Finished

I had the idea for the circle blocks in my head but wasn't completely sure how I was going to construct them, so I did the only right thing...procrastinated!   When I finally did them, they weren't that difficult.  I took the snowball quilt pattern and divided it up and made paper piecing patterns.  The center where all the seams came together I clipped a small circle to get rid of some of the bulk and then appliqued a small circle over the hole.  The rest was all put together improv.  Just started adding fabric. The quilting is also improv.  I did all the sections differently.  Lots of freedom...lots of needs a name.  Fishsticks?

Tangerine Tango

If I hadn't taken this challenge, I wouldn't have pushed myself to figure out these circles.  Love the way they came out.  These have to become part of a finished quilt by March 1 to be entered in the challenge. pressure...pressure..I can do it!

More Modern Quilting Designs

More quilting from Modern Quilting Designs by Bethany Pease.  I'm inspired. A pillow was a perfect way to practice new quilting ideas.   Really want to do this on a full size quilt.  Loving the pebbles in the leaves, or are they feathers.  Either way, they're pretty fun.
I started the new year wanting to go through my fabric and use or get rid of some.  I've been sewing and buying or "collecting" fabric for 20 years.  It was time for some of it to go.  Spring cleaning in January.  Scrap Attack over at Stitched in Color was just perfect timing. Great idea.  I attacked the pinks and made progress.  Found 3 pieces that are left~over from old projects and I will never use them again, so out they go.  The rest will be used for a scrappy triangle or pyramid quilt.  Feels so good to clean out a  little.

New Quilt Patterns for a New Year

I love it when the quilting is so right with the quilt that my eyes are going back and forth between the quilt and the quilting..when it all comes together to make the whole package.  I'm always trying to make that happen and always looking for new quilt patterns.  It seems so easy to get stuck in a meandering rut and lose inspiration when it comes times to quilt the quilt top and lets face it, by the time I'm done with the quilt top, I'm usually ready to move onto my next quilt.  I ordered this book,  'MODERN QUILT DESIGNS' by Bethany Pease, right before the holidays and just got it.  This book is full of fun, easy patterns for modern quilts.  You really don't have to meander every quilt.

Quilted a tabletopper and love the way it came out.  A fun afternoon was had by all.  Makes me look forward to quilting the quilt as much as picking out the fabrics and piecing the top.

In With The New

2011 - Gray
A trend in 2011 was gray and I liked that. My last finish of 2011 was a quilt for my son.  See the gray?  The quilt block is greek cross.  I got the idea from Faith over at Fresh Lemons.

2012 - Tangerine
The word on the street is that the color for 2012 is tangerine.  There's a quilt challenge, "The Tangerine Tango Quilt Challenge" hosted by, two more seconds.  Can't say I have much of this color, but I have ideas.  There's 2 categories, one for smaller quilts and projects, (tablerunners, pillows, etc.) and one for quilts. I have ideas for both but not much fabric that would officially be called tangerine.

Its New Its 2012

When I was home, busy with 3 small children, computers were quickly becoming a common household fixture.  Now, there seems to be a language out there that my children and husband (as well as the rest of the world) speak and I'm lost. This blog is my attempt to join the year 2012.  I must thank my family in advance for all their patience. HERE WE GO!
